The delegation of the Department of Information discusses and exchanges best practices with the Philippines’ communication and public diplomacy agencies

On 11 – 14 September 2024, the delegation from the Press Division, Department of Information, visited Manila and Cebu to exchange information with the Philippines’ communication and public diplomacy agencies, aiming to enhance cooperation in news and information exchange, public relations strategy, as well as exchanging experiences and best practices in communication with both traditional media and modern media.

The delegation, met with the representatives from Office of Public Diplomacy, Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, and, together with H.E. Mr. Tull Traisorat, Ambassador of Thailand to the Philippines, had a fruitful discussion with the representatives from Presidential Communications Office of the Philippines. Both sides discussed the work of the agencies, best practices for public communication, especially communication management on sensitive issues, media relations, and anti fake news management.

The delegation also visited and discussed with well-known news agencies in the Philippines, particularly the Philippines Daily Inquirer and the Sunstar Cebu on the work of the media, especially the role and adaptation of traditional media during disruptive time. They also explored the possible cooperation on the exchange of young editors between the two sides. The delegation also met with the oldest press-citizen council in the Philippines, namely the Cebu Citizen-Press Council. The discussion focused on the establishment, the members, and the process of the press council in the Philippines, as well as press freedom in the Philippines.
