On 1 August 2024, Mr. Nikorndej Balankura, Director-General of the Department of Information paid a courtesy call on Ms. Lee Kyung-ah, Director-General for Public Diplomacy and Cultural Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea on the occasion of the Official Visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the Republic of Korea from 31 July – 2 August 2024. Both sides had a fruitful discussion regarding the cooperation under the Joint Cultural Committee (JCC) between Thailand and the Republic of Korea and agreed that the JCC meeting agenda could be adjusted to include the areas of their mutual benefit.

Both sides agreed to officially establish the Joint Cultural Committee and Thailand wishes to host the first meeting in 2024 where the possible cooperation under the JCC in various fields, including fostering people-to-people exchange, and sharing best practices in film, music and gaming industries, will be considered.

The Joint Cultural Committee between Thailand and the Republic of Korea, which is co-chaired by the two Directors-General, was an outcome of the Joint Action Plan towards Strengthening Strategic Partnership between Thailand and the Republic of Korea (2022 – 2027) in the areas of people-to-people exchange and culture.
